Wrap as a skirt or drape as a shawl.Back story: Once the fashion must in streets of Victorian Madrid, these “manila” shawls became “mantas de cholitas” in urban Bolivia, as the 19th century ended. Every Aymara woman of means had one to show off and a black one for mourning. This machine embroidered piece is about 50 years old and has extraordinary hand knotted macrame fringe work.
